Symbol Technologies, the world leader in bar code-driven data transaction systems, has released a new range of low-cost, ergonomically-designed hand-held laser scanners that include comprehensive scanning, host connectivity and software features.

Called the HotShot^™ LS2100 Scanner Series, the new products are designed for a wide range of specialty hand-held laser scanning applications, and are available in a variety of configurations.

Weighing less than 168 grams, the HotShot's optimal handle size and soft-touch trigger minimise operator fatigue and boost productivity.

Available in decoded and un-decoded versions, Symbol's HotShot offers an impressive list of features to meet the requirements of specialty hand-held scanning applications:

• Ergonomic 'aim-and-shoot' design is intuitive to use and  minimises operator training.
   

• Reads UPC/EAN bar codes from contact to 28cm and 5mm high-density bar codes from 1.3cm to 6.4cm.
   

• Includes the acclaimed SE 1200 Series Scan Engine. Advanced bar code reading capability includes a variety of bar code sizes and even poorly printed and low-contrast symbols.
   

• Symbol's patented Mylar scan element, which has no moving parts,  eliminates wear and uses less power to extend operational life and battery operation in portable applications.
   

• Includes on-board RS232 and Keyboard Wedge interfaces as well as Symbol's Synapse 'Smart Cable' to connect to almost any host type by a simple cable change.
   

• HotShot's gold-coated optics increases first-pass read rates  in a variety of lighting conditions.
   

• Protective elastomeric rubber over-moulds absorb impact, provide easy pick-up and prevent the HotShot from sliding around the counter.

The HotShot scanner is comfortable and easy to use, even for extended time periods. The features of the HotShot scanner make them ideal for a wide range of specialty hand-held laser scanning applications, such as video rental, music/CD stores, sporting goods, office automation functions, or as an attachment to a portable terminal for inventory and/or mobile applications.
